Devotion

Hebrews describes the life of faith as a race that requires patience. The race is personal: the race that is set before us. We are not called to run someone else’s course, compare our pace to theirs, or carry burdens God never asked us to carry. We are called to run faithfully in the path He has placed before us.

The passage tells us to lay aside every weight as well as the sin that easily entangles. Not every weight is openly sinful. Some things are simply draining, distracting, or unnecessary for the season we are in. A crowded schedule, unresolved resentment, constant comparison, or habits that scatter our attention can make faithfulness harder than it needs to be.

Patience in this race is not passive. It is steady endurance. We continue looking to Jesus, taking one faithful step after another, and trusting that the Lord sees the whole course. Progress may feel slow, but a life of consistent obedience is a race well run.
