Daily Inspiration: Saved By Mercy Not Merit

Titus 3:5 KJV

Daily KJV Scripture

Scripture

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Titus 3:5 KJV

Devotion

Titus makes the foundation of salvation unmistakably clear. We are not saved because our good works outweigh our failures or because we have managed to make ourselves righteous. We are saved according to God’s mercy through the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.

This truth humbles us because no one can boast before God. It also gives deep relief. We do not have to earn a place in His love by performing well enough. Jesus has done what we could not do. His grace receives us, forgives us, and begins a work of renewal within us.

Good works still matter, but they are the fruit of salvation, not the price of it. We serve, love, give, and obey because we have received mercy. When we forget this order, faith becomes exhausting. When we remember it, obedience becomes grateful. The God who saves by mercy also continues to renew His people day by day.

Daily Application

Thank God specifically that your standing with Him rests on His mercy. Let that gratitude shape one act of service or obedience today without trying to use it to earn His approval.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for saving me by mercy and not by my own merit. Renew me by Your Spirit, keep me humble, and let every good work in my life flow from gratitude for Your grace. In Jesus name. Amen.

Reflection Question

Am I trying to earn from God what He has already offered me by grace?
