Devotion

The Christian life begins by receiving Christ, but it is meant to continue by walking in Him. Paul uses the images of roots and a building. Roots go down for nourishment and stability. A building rises through steady construction. Both pictures remind us that faith is meant to deepen and mature over time.

Being rooted in Christ means our confidence is not built on changing opinions, circumstances, or emotional highs. We return to His Word, His grace, and His truth. Being built up in Him means growth takes place through repeated obedience, learning, repentance, fellowship, and prayer.

Thanksgiving is part of this process. Gratitude keeps faith from becoming a dry performance. It reminds us that every step of growth is supported by grace. When we thank God for salvation, correction, provision, and daily strength, our roots go deeper. A grateful heart becomes more stable because it keeps remembering the goodness of the One in whom it is planted.
