Devotion

When the angel called Gideon a mighty man of valor, Gideon was hiding while he worked. He did not feel bold, ready, or important. He saw his family as weak and himself as the least likely person for a significant task. Yet the Lord spoke to Gideon according to His presence and purpose, not according to Gideon’s immediate confidence.

God does not flatter us with empty praise. He sees our weakness honestly, but He also sees what His grace can do in a willing life. Gideon would need time, instruction, correction, and repeated reminders. The Lord did not wait until Gideon felt fearless before calling him. He began with a promise: The Lord is with thee.

We often define ourselves by what we have failed to do, what others have said, or what makes us feel small. This verse calls us to place those voices beneath the greater truth of God’s presence. You may not feel ready for every responsibility ahead, but you can grow into faithfulness as you walk with Him.
