Daily Inspiration: Words That Give Grace To The Hearer

Ephesians 4:29 KJV

Daily KJV Scripture

Scripture

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Ephesians 4:29 KJV

Devotion

Paul gives a clear standard for speech. We are not merely to avoid corrupt words; we are to speak what builds up and gives grace to those who hear. Our words carry influence. They can leave someone feeling smaller, more anxious, and more isolated, or they can strengthen, clarify, and encourage.

Giving grace through speech does not mean avoiding necessary truth. Truth can be spoken in a way that respects dignity and seeks restoration. Before speaking, we can ask whether our words are timely, honest, necessary, and shaped by love. A true word spoken with bitterness can still wound. A gracious word can carry both clarity and care.

This verse is especially important in ordinary conversations where we may be careless: at home, online, in traffic, during conflict, or when discussing someone who is not present. A life transformed by Christ should be visible in the way we use our mouths. God can make our words a source of grace instead of harm.

Daily Application

Before one important conversation today, ask God to guide your tone and words. Aim to speak something true that will also build up, clarify, or give grace to the person hearing it.

Prayer

Lord, guard my mouth and shape my words. Remove speech that harms, exaggerates, or tears down, and help me speak with truth, kindness, and grace that strengthens others. In Jesus name. Amen.

Reflection Question

What change in my speech would make my words more life-giving today?
