Today’s Encouragement

Love in Scripture is active, patient, and costly. It is more than a warm feeling toward people who are easy to enjoy. God’s love teaches us to value others, speak with care, serve without needing applause, and choose what is good for another person.

A loving life is often proven in small moments: listening fully, answering gently, forgiving quickly, helping quietly, and seeing people as souls made in the image of God. Love becomes a daily witness when it shapes both our attitude and our actions.

John 15:12 is Jesus giving a clear command about how His followers are to treat one another.

When He says, “This is my commandment,” He is not offering a suggestion or a nice idea. He is giving a direct instruction. Love is not optional in the Christian life. It is one of the clearest marks of belonging to Christ.

The phrase “That ye love one another” means believers are called to care for each other with sincerity, patience, kindness, forgiveness, humility, and compassion. This love is not just spoken; it is lived out in how we treat people, how we serve them, how we bear with them, and how we respond when things are difficult.

Then Jesus gives the standard: “as I have loved you.” That makes this command much deeper. We are not simply told to love others according to our mood, convenience, or preference. We are called to love with the kind of love Jesus showed — sacrificial, faithful, forgiving, patient, and undeserved.

Christ loved us when we were weak. He loved us when we did not deserve it. He loved us enough to serve, suffer, forgive, and give Himself for us. That becomes the pattern for how we are to love one another.

John 15:12 reminds us that Christian love is more than emotion. It is a command, a choice, and a reflection of the love we have received from Jesus. The love God gives to us is meant to flow through us to others.
