Devotion

Jesus tells His followers that they are the light of the world. Light does not call attention to itself for its own sake; it helps people see. In the same way, a Christian life should make the character of Christ more visible through truth, kindness, courage, integrity, and love.

We may imagine that shining for God requires a public platform or an extraordinary story. Often it appears in very ordinary places: the way we speak when we are frustrated, the honesty we practice when no one is watching, the patience we show at home, the compassion we offer to someone who is overlooked. A steady life of faith can point people toward Christ more clearly than many words.

Light also stands out because darkness exists. When a culture becomes cynical, dishonest, or harsh, a believer who chooses grace and truth offers a different witness. This does not mean we try to appear better than others. It means we allow the life of Christ to shape us so that others can see something of His goodness through us.
