Devotion

Paul lists every kind of force that might seem strong enough to separate us from the love of God: life, death, present troubles, future uncertainty, spiritual powers, height, depth, and anything else in creation. Then he declares that none of them can separate those who are in Christ from God’s love.

This is not a promise that believers will never face sorrow or hardship. It is a promise that hardship cannot cut us off from the love of the One who holds us. When we feel abandoned, frightened, or ashamed, our emotions may tell a different story. Romans 8 gives us a truth stronger than those feelings.

God’s love is not fragile. It was demonstrated at the cross and secured in Christ. It does not disappear because we enter a hard season, make a mistake, or cannot see the way forward. We can return to Him again and again, confident that His love remains the safest place for our hearts.
