Daily Inspiration: Rooted By Living Water
Daily KJV Scripture
Today’s Scripture
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
Psalm 1:1-3 KJV
Today’s Encouragement
Psalm 1 describes the blessed person as someone who does not follow the counsel of the ungodly but delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night. That person is compared to a tree planted by rivers of water, bringing forth fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.
A tree stays healthy because of where its roots are placed. In the same way, our spiritual health is shaped by the voices we listen to and the truth we return to. When our lives are rooted in God’s Word, we are not immune to difficult seasons, but we have a dependable source of nourishment. Fruit comes in God’s time as we stay planted near Him.
Psalm 1:1-3 paints a beautiful picture of the blessed life. It begins by showing us what the faithful person avoids. He does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of the scornful. This reminds us that the voices we listen to, the paths we follow, and the attitudes we settle into all shape the direction of our lives.
But the blessed life is not only about what we turn away from. It is also about what we turn toward. The scripture says, “his delight is in the law of the LORD.” This means God’s Word is not treated as a burden, but as a source of joy, wisdom, correction, and strength. The one who delights in God’s Word does not merely visit it occasionally; he meditates on it day and night, allowing truth to shape his heart and guide his steps.
The promise that follows is powerful. He shall be “like a tree planted by the rivers of water.” A tree planted near living water has a steady source of nourishment. It can stand through heat, seasons, and storms because its roots are drawing from something deeper than the surface.
This is the life God desires for His people. When we are rooted in Him and nourished by His Word, we can bear fruit in the right season. Our strength does not have to wither when circumstances become difficult, because our source is the Lord.
Daily Application
Today, consider what is feeding your heart and mind. Are you being shaped more by the counsel of the world or by the truth of God’s Word? Take time to root yourself in Scripture, even if it is only a few quiet moments of reading, prayer, and reflection. Let God’s Word become the water that strengthens your soul and helps you bear fruit in your season. Notice one voice or influence that may be pulling you away from God’s wisdom. Replace it today with time in Scripture and a choice to meditate on what God says.
Prayer
Lord, help me to be rooted deeply in You. Teach me to turn away from ungodly counsel and to delight in Your Word. Let Your truth nourish my heart, guide my decisions, and strengthen me through every season. Help me bear fruit that honors You, and keep my faith from withering when life becomes difficult. Thank You for being the living water my soul needs. Lord, plant my life deeply in Your Word. Guard me from ungodly counsel, nourish my faith, and bring forth fruit in my life in Your time. In Jesus name. Amen.
Reflection Question
What is shaping my thoughts most right now, and is it helping me stay rooted in God? What voices, habits, or influences do I need to turn away from so I can be more deeply rooted in God’s Word?
