Daily Inspiration: Grace For The Work

Colossians 3:23 KJV

Scripture For Today

Colossians 3:23 (KJV)

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Encouragement

Ordinary work can become worship when it is offered to the Lord. The task in front of you may feel small, but faithfulness makes it meaningful.

Colossians 3:23 teaches that the way we work matters to God.

When Paul says, “And whatsoever ye do,” he is showing that this applies to every part of life. It is not only about church work or spiritual duties. It includes our job, our family responsibilities, our service to others, our daily tasks, our attitude, and even the small things that may seem unnoticed.

The phrase “do it heartily” means to do it sincerely, willingly, and with your whole heart. God does not want us to live carelessly, lazily, or with resentment in our work. He wants us to give our best because our labor can become an act of worship when it is done with the right heart.

Then the verse says, “as to the Lord.” This changes the purpose behind everything we do. Instead of only trying to impress people, gain approval, or receive praise, we are reminded that the Lord is the One we are truly serving. Even if people do not notice, God sees. Even if others do not appreciate it, God knows the heart behind it.

The phrase “and not unto men” does not mean we should ignore people or be careless toward those we serve. It means our highest motivation should not be human applause. People can be hard to please. They may overlook our effort or misunderstand our intentions. But when we do our work for the Lord, our purpose becomes steadier and stronger.

This scripture reminds us that ordinary work can have spiritual value. Whether we are designing, building, serving, teaching, helping, cleaning, leading, creating, or caring for someone, we can do it in a way that honors God.

Colossians 3:23 encourages us to work with excellence, humility, and a willing heart because ultimately, we are doing it for the Lord.

  • Release the need to be noticed by everyone.
