Daily Inspiration: Mercy New Every Morning

Lamentations 3:22-23 KJV

Scripture For Today

Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Encouragement

Yesterday does not get the final word over a heart that belongs to the Lord. His mercy is not stale, rationed, or exhausted. Morning comes with fresh compassion.

Lamentations 3:22–23 is a powerful reminder that even in seasons of sorrow, loss, correction, or hardship, God’s mercy has not run out.

The book of Lamentations was written during a time of deep grief and devastation. Yet in the middle of sorrow, the writer turns his attention to the character of God. He realizes that the only reason they have not been completely destroyed is because of the LORD’S mercies.

When it says, “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed,” it means God’s mercy is what preserves us. We may face trouble, failure, discipline, weakness, or difficult circumstances, but God’s mercy keeps us from being overtaken completely. His mercy holds us when we cannot hold ourselves.

The phrase “because his compassions fail not” shows that God’s compassion never wears out. Human compassion can grow tired, limited, or conditional, but God’s compassion is steady and faithful. He does not stop caring for His people.

Then the scripture says, “They are new every morning.” This is one of the most comforting truths in the Bible. Each day begins with fresh mercy from God. Yesterday’s failure, burden, fear, or struggle does not exhaust His kindness. When morning comes, His mercy is still there.

Finally, “great is thy faithfulness” declares that God can be trusted. His love is not unstable. His promises are not fragile. His care does not change with our circumstances. Even when life feels uncertain, God remains faithful.

This scripture reminds us that every morning is a testimony of God’s mercy. We are still here because He has kept us. His compassion has not failed, His mercy has not expired, and His faithfulness is still great.

Today’s Application

  • Begin again without dragging yesterday into every room of today.
  • Receive mercy before trying to prove you deserve it.
  • Let gratitude for God’s faithfulness shape your tone and pace.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for mercy that meets me this morning. Help me receive Your compassion, walk in humility, and extend mercy to others as You have shown mercy to me. In Jesus name, amen.

Reflection Question

Where do I need to receive a fresh start instead of rehearsing yesterday?
