Daily Inspiration: Wisdom For The Way

James 1:5 KJV

Scripture For Today

James 1:5 (KJV)

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Encouragement

God is not reluctant to give wisdom. When the path is unclear, prayer is not a last resort. It is the right starting place for a heart that wants to walk faithfully.

James 1:5 is a beautiful promise that God does not leave His people without guidance. It reminds us that when we do not know what to do, where to go, what decision to make, or how to handle a situation, we are invited to ask God for wisdom.

The verse begins, “If any of you lack wisdom,” which shows that God already knows we will face moments where our understanding is limited. We may have knowledge, opinions, advice from others, or personal experience, but true wisdom comes from God. Wisdom is more than knowing facts; it is knowing how to apply truth in a way that honors God.

When it says, “let him ask of God,” it teaches us to bring our questions, decisions, and uncertainty to the Lord in prayer. God wants His children to seek Him. He is not bothered by our need for help.

The phrase “that giveth to all men liberally” means God gives generously. He is not stingy with wisdom. He does not give just barely enough. When we sincerely seek Him, He is willing to provide the direction, understanding, discernment, and clarity we need.

Then it says, “and upbraideth not.” That means God does not scold, shame, or mock us for asking. He does not say, “You should already know better.” Instead, He welcomes the humble heart that admits, “Lord, I need Your wisdom.”

Finally, “and it shall be given him” is a promise. God may not always answer in the way or timing we expect, but He will faithfully guide those who seek Him.

This scripture reminds us that we do not have to walk through life relying only on our own understanding. When we lack wisdom, we can ask God with confidence, knowing He gives generously, lovingly, and without condemnation

Today’s Application

  • Ask God specifically for wisdom in the decision in front of you.
  • Look for counsel that agrees with Scripture and produces peaceable fruit.
  • Do not confuse pressure with direction. Give wisdom room to settle.

Prayer

Father, I need Your wisdom. Help me recognize what is true, patient, honest, and faithful. Guide my decisions so they honor You and bless the people affected by them. In Jesus name, amen.

Reflection Question

What decision needs prayer before another opinion?
