Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV

Daily KJV Scripture

Today’s Scripture

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV

Today’s Encouragement

The epistles connect what we believe with the way we speak, decide, forgive, endure, and serve.

Ephesians 2:8-9 explains that salvation is not something we earn; it is something God gives.

When Paul says, “For by grace are ye saved,” he is teaching that salvation comes through God’s undeserved mercy and love. Grace means God gives us what we could never deserve and could never accomplish on our own.

The phrase “through faith” means we receive this salvation by trusting in Jesus Christ—believing in who He is, what He did on the cross, and His power to save.

When it says, “not of yourselves: it is the gift of God,” it reminds us that salvation does not begin with our goodness, our effort, or our religious works. It begins with God’s love and is received as a gift.

The words “Not of works, lest any man should boast” show that no person can brag about saving themselves. If salvation were based on our works, pride would have a place. But because it is by grace, all the glory belongs to God.

In simple terms:
We are saved by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our own works, so that God alone receives the glory.

Grace is God’s kindness toward people who cannot earn what He gives. It humbles us because it reminds us that our standing before Him is not built on performance. It also strengthens us because grace does not leave us where it found us.

When grace is deeply received, it changes how we treat ourselves and others. We can confess sin honestly, receive forgiveness gratefully, and extend patience more freely. Grace teaches us to live with both truth and tenderness.

Daily Application

Let grace shape one conversation today. Speak truthfully, but do it with patience, kindness, and awareness of God’s mercy toward you.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for grace I could never earn. Help me receive it humbly and reflect it in the way I treat others. Amen.

Reflection Question
