Daily Inspiration: Not By Might But By God’s Spirit

Zechariah 4:6 KJV

Daily KJV Scripture

Scripture

Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Zechariah 4:6 KJV

Devotion

Zerubbabel faced a rebuilding task that was larger than his resources. God did not tell him to gather more human strength before beginning. He reminded him that the work would be completed by the Spirit of the Lord. This promise corrects our tendency to measure every calling by our own ability.

Human effort matters. We plan, work, learn, prepare, and serve. But effort alone cannot change hearts, give lasting wisdom, open the right doors, or accomplish spiritual work. When we rely only on our own might, we either become proud when things go well or crushed when they do not. The Spirit of God gives a different foundation: dependence.

Depending on the Spirit does not make us passive. It makes us prayerful, teachable, and willing to move at God’s direction. We bring our gifts and labor to Him, asking Him to do what we cannot. The task in front of you may be more than you can carry alone, but it is not more than God can accomplish through a surrendered life.

Daily Application

Before beginning an important task today, acknowledge your limits to God. Prepare and work faithfully, but ask the Holy Spirit to supply wisdom, strength, and results beyond your own ability.

Prayer

Lord, keep me from depending only on my own strength. Fill me with Your Spirit, guide my work, and accomplish through me what I cannot achieve by might or power alone. In Jesus name. Amen.

Reflection Question

What responsibility am I trying to carry as though it depends entirely on me?
