Today’s Encouragement

Family life is one of the main places where faith becomes practical. Patience, forgiveness, service, honesty, and love are tested and strengthened in the people closest to us. Home can become a place where God’s grace is practiced daily.

No family is strengthened by perfect people. Families grow through humble conversations, steady care, faithful correction, and the willingness to begin again. When we invite God into ordinary home life, even small choices can build peace, trust, and spiritual direction.

Ephesians 6:4 gives instruction about how fathers, and by principle parents, should guide their children in a way that reflects the heart of the Lord.

When it says, “ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath,” it is warning against harsh, careless, unfair, or discouraging parenting. A child can be provoked to anger when correction is constant but love is missing, when discipline is inconsistent, when expectations are unreasonable, or when a parent leads with frustration instead of wisdom. God is not saying children should never be corrected; He is saying correction should not crush their spirit.

Then the verse says, “but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” The word nurture points to loving training, care, discipline, and guidance. It is the steady work of shaping a child with patience and godly instruction. Admonition means teaching, warning, and correction that points them toward what is right.

The phrase “of the Lord” is the key. Children are not just to be raised according to personal opinion, culture, anger, or convenience. They are to be raised in the ways of God — with truth, love, patience, correction, prayer, and example.

This scripture reminds us that a Christ-centered home should be firm but loving, corrective but not cruel, and structured but full of grace. Parents are called to guide their children’s hearts, not just control their behavior. The goal is to help them know the Lord, trust His Word, and grow in wisdom, character, and faith.
