1 Corinthians 13:4 KJV

Daily KJV Scripture

Today’s Scripture

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

1 Corinthians 13:4 KJV

Today’s Encouragement

This passage gives a clear place to pause, listen, and let God’s Word shape the day.

1 Corinthians 13:4 describes the character of true Christian love, which the KJV calls charity. This kind of love is not shallow, selfish, or prideful. It reflects the heart of Christ.

When the verse says “Charity suffereth long,” it means love is patient. It is willing to endure, forgive, and remain faithful even when people are difficult or circumstances are hard.

The phrase “and is kind” shows that love is not only patient in silence, but also gentle in action. True love treats others with compassion, tenderness, and care.

“Charity envieth not” means love does not become jealous or resentful when others are blessed. It rejoices in good things happening to someone else.

“Charity vaunteth not itself” means love does not brag, show off, or try to make itself look superior. It is not centered on self-promotion.

“Is not puffed up” means love is not filled with pride. It does not look down on others or act arrogantly.

In simple terms:
True love is patient, kind, humble, and free from jealousy or pride. It does not seek to lift itself up, but seeks to bless others.

Love in Scripture is active, patient, and costly. It is more than a warm feeling toward people who are easy to enjoy. God’s love teaches us to value others, speak with care, serve without needing applause, and choose what is good for another person.

A loving life is often proven in small moments: listening fully, answering gently, forgiving quickly, helping quietly, and seeing people as souls made in the image of God. Love becomes a daily witness when it shapes both our attitude and our actions.

Daily Application

Choose one person today and show love in a concrete way: listen, encourage, help, forgive, or speak with unusual gentleness.

Prayer

Lord, fill my heart with the kind of love that reflects You. Help me love in action, not only in words or intention. Amen.

Reflection Question

How can I show Christlike love in a practical way?
